When purchasing online, compare the total cost of your order. Some companies advertise low pricing but overcharge for shipping and/or add handling fees to make up for lower profits.

Watch out for tax scams. Most businesses are registered only within the Province where they are located however some websites collect taxes for other Provinces but do not remit them to the government. A valid tax number is required for all transaction and can be verified by contacting your local tax office.

Research who you are buying from. Many websites operate from a house or apartment and are not registered businesses. If you are unsure, we recommend using Google to view a photo of their business address. Often these companies sell unofficial or counterfeit products, collect local taxes which are not remitted or reported, and sell or lend your confidential information which can lead to fraud and identity theft.
